Park Holidays UK Leverages IGEL to Accelerate Mergers & Acquisitions, Cloud Migration and Microsoft 365 Adoption

UK, Reading. September 13, 2022 – IGEL, a provider of managed endpoint operating systems for secure access to digital workspaces, announced today that Park Holidays UK is using IGEL technology as a company-wide strategic solution. The solution supports Park Holidays UK’s ambitious M&A growth strategy, offers access to cloud-based applications, and enables the introduction of video conferencing using Microsoft Teams for all staff.

Park Holidays UK, one of the largest operators in the country, has been an IGEL customer for over a decade. The company provides static caravan and lodge holidays, glamping, and holiday home ownership in various locations across the UK.

Through organic growth and multiple acquisitions, Park Holidays UK has expanded its portfolio to 54 locations. In 2021, the acquisition of Bridge Leisure added nine parks, and in 2022, Park Holidays UK acquired Bodmin Holiday Park and Park Leisure. The company’s revenues for 2021 were £228 million, with an EBITDA of £79.6 million[1].

Standardized IT with VDI supports geographically diverse organization

Park Holidays UK has been using VDI and thin client technology for many years. The combination of IGEL and Citrix solutions, deployed a decade ago, addressed bandwidth issues, standardized desktops, simplified support and deployment, and accelerated endpoint management.

Michael Procyshyn, Park Holidays UK’s IT director, stated, “We have a uniform system across the company, which allows us to rapidly deploy desktop services when acquiring new parks. It enables us to scale up our infrastructure and systems quickly and cost effectively, facilitating our growth.”

In addition to VDI, Park Holidays UK has modernized its IT environment with new desktops, server virtualization, SAN storage, and a Wide Area Network connecting all holiday park sites. The company has also migrated its IT applications and phone system to the cloud, running on Microsoft Azure. Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 Business Central have been implemented, with Elite Parks software as the company’s ERP system.

Citrix and IGEL OS-powered endpoints deliver a variety of other benefits:

  1. Native support for cloud-based applications: IGEL OS and IGEL hardware are optimized to support VDI and DaaS applications, which is essential for Park Holidays UK’s Microsoft-based cloud environment.
  2. Fast staff onboarding: The cloud-based applications, Citrix, and IGEL OS-powered endpoints enable Park Holidays UK to quickly integrate acquired businesses. Onboarding staff and migrating sites takes only weeks, compared to competitors who can take years.
  3. Enhanced security: Security is server-based and controlled centrally, minimizing virus issues. IGEL endpoints are locked down, preventing unauthorized modification of the desktop image or local application installation.
  4. Lower cost and simplified management: IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) allows remote control of the distributed environment, reducing the number of technical staff needed and providing cost-effective technical support for all employees.
  5. Ability for staff to easily work across sites: Standardized desktop applications accessed through Citrix enable seamless access to corporate applications, files, and folders across different locations. This flexibility helps Park Holidays UK resource its business efficiently, especially during peak holiday times.
  6. Implementation of Microsoft Teams for video conferencing: Park Holidays UK plans to leverage the native power of IGEL endpoints running IGEL OS to implement Microsoft Teams for video conferencing. Evaluation trials are currently underway.

Simon Townsend, IGEL’s Chief Marketing Officer, commented, “Park Holidays UK is a diverse organization with a variety of staff who all need simple access to IT systems and the Internet. Citrix and IGEL enable a lower desktop total cost of ownership and provide a great end-user experience.”
